Berkes Ferenc is nowadays the strongest GM in Hungary after the "big three" (Lékó, Polgár, Almási). His carreer is similar to Ács Peter's. He played in several junior tournaments. He won the U12 Hungarian championship, and the U14, too. However it was not enough for Ferenc. In this year he won the World Championship U18. After this result Ferenc's development hasn't stoped. In 2003, he was 1st to 5th palce in Oberwart Open. 2004 was the year of great successes in his life. He was 4th to 10th place in Moscow Open, which is one of the strongest contest in the world. He was 1st in Zalaegerszeg (Cat 13), 2nd in the Marx Gyorgy memorial (Cat 14), behind Kochnoi, and he also won the Hungarian Championship!
